The Grease Show returns to
DC/101 Saturday morning, April 5th, from 8:00am to Noon. If you're over 30 (probably not DC/101's current target market), you may remember Grease's original stint at DC/101 from 1982-1993 where he was the #1 rated morning show in DC. So plan to listen to the Mega Mutha, DC/101, Saturdays from 8am-Noon for the return of the Grease!

August 8, 2006 -- New vintage bits & videos available
I was recently sent two new Grease airchecks from WAXC 1460 in Rochester, NY from 1973, making them some of the earliest known Grease airchecks. I've posted them in the
Bit Vault so go check them out for some vintage Grease. Thanks to CMJ for taping them & sending them in!

In other new bits news, the other main source of downloadable Greaseman bits on the web is Bruce's excellent Greasy Bits To Go page. Bruce recently added lots of new bits from the 80's and even a few videos from inside the DC/101 studios in 1991 that are all worth hearing/viewing. Check them out!

April 4, 2006 -- Movie featuring Grease to premiere April 20th
Grease is featured in a locally produced movie titled
The Last Mango which will be premiering in Arlington, VA on April 20th. Grease sent me some details:

"That Indi film I did last summer is ready to go. The first showing of The Last Mango will be at the Arlington Cinema 'N' Draft House, April 20th, 7pm. I will be there. It's 10 bucks to get in. The money is going to charity (ovarian cancer). The movie hasn't been rated yet, but it will prolly get an R for spicy content and language. People can go to the theater website to buy tickets in advance."

According to the movie's website, it will also be airing in Frederick, MD on April 22nd at The Weinberg Theater, but Grease probably won't be attending that showing. You can view the trailer at GreasemanStore.com.

February 16, 2006 -- The Grease Show to expand to 4 hours
Just like he's done for most of his career, Grease will once again be on the airwaves a full four hours from 6-10am, starting on March 1st. WMET will be expanding the show by one hour beyond the current 9am cutoff. This was a much-requested change by us fans, so congrats to Grease!

December 8, 2005 -- The ultimate Greaseman CD collection
Since early 2003, The Greaseman has been producing and selling audio CD compilations of various themes for his many fans to purchase. By late 2004 there were no less than 18 CDs available through his website
GreasemanStore.com, but they decided to do something special for the upcoming holiday season and released a designer box set of all 18 CDs called The Greaseman Collection. The response was great and they quickly sold out of the box set, which is destined to become a collector's item. 2005 has featured a number of new CD releases, including the 4-disc Clinton and The Punk: Volume One, so due to high demand they've decided to once again release a box set of all available CDs. This time around, The Greaseman Collection Two contains a massive 30 CDs!

I'm lucky enough to have one of these new box sets in my possession, and it is quite a package. Although it includes a dozen more discs, the box is smaller than the original collection because there are no jewel boxes included -- all discs are in sleeves, and there is an accompanying booklet with all artwork & tracklists, plus Grease's personally signed autograph inside the cover. My favorite discs are the Bit Vault ones because they include classic bits from Grease's early days, and as a special bonus they've thrown in two exclusive CDs from the Bit Vault, volumes 5 & 6, which aren't available for sale separately. Nicesh!

And now through a special arrangement between Greaseman.org and GreasemanStore.com you can receive 5% off the purchase of The Greaseman Collection 2 or any other item at GreasemanStore.com! Just place your order at GreasemanStore.com and enter the code "greaseman.org" at checkout and you'll receive 5% off your purchase. Schweeet!

So if you've been waiting for the perfect collection of Greaseman CDs either for yourself or as a gift, this is it! Everything from Sgt. Fury In Afghanistan to A Very Greasy Christmas: Volume One to Adventures of the Bearded Clam and the One-Eyed Viper ...it's all in The Greaseman Collection Two!

October 6, 2005 -- The Grease Show starts on WMET 1160AM
The Grease Show is expanding to WMET 1160AM starting Monday, October 10th, weekdays from 7-9am. This will broaden Grease's coverage in the DC area due to WMET's 50,000 watt signal. He will continue to be heard on WDMV-AM 700. Here's more info from WMET's website:

  • The Greaseman Show page (Gee, some of that bio looks awfully familiar...)
  • Talk Back Blog entry

    Congrats, Grease!

10/16/05 Update -- Now that The Grease Show is on WMET, as of Monday, 10/17 he will no longer be heard on former flagship station WDMV-AM 700 in D.C. as well as other syndicated outlets, with the exception of Thunder 104.5 FM in Fredericksburg, VA. I want to say a big THANK YOU to WDMV for bringing Grease back to Washington DC three years ago and for supporting him to no end during the run! Good luck with the new full-time Washington Business Radio format!
Also, check out the new Greaseman Forum at WMET. Here's the link:

November 29, 2004 -- Sign up for the new Bit Of The Day
The Greaseman is introducing a new Bit Of The Day feature that is completely free! Sign up for the daily e-mail links

November 19, 2004 -- Still more Born Bulky & Sgt. Fury 2001 comics
The comics just keep comin'! Joe Hollingsworth has sent me the 5th installment in the Born Bulky series and the 4th installment in the Sgt. Fury 2001 series comics, which are now available in the

The box they all come in includes beautiful woven fabric with suede and brass accents, and is topped with a solid brass plaque engraved with "The Greaseman Collection". Also included is an autographed holiday card from The Grease.

UPDATE -- This box set is not for sale any more. It was a limited time offer only during the 2004 holiday season.

August 1, 2004 -- Fourth installment of Born Bulky comics now up
Joe Hollingsworth has sent me the 4rd installment of his Born Bulky comics. This time I scanned & posted them in a timely fashion for all to enjoy! Check them out in the
    Comics section.

On an unrelated but noteworthy note, today is Grease's birthday. Happy Birthday, bud-bud-budday!!

July 1, 2004 -- The Bit Vault is back!
Thanks to the offer by GreaseFan Sonny Moore,
The Bit Vault has been saved! Sonny has graciously offered to host a majority of the bits on this site on his server at Moore Web Design, his web design company (and he deserves the free plug there!). So rest easy, branch doodadians, the three-and-a-half month drought is over. As always, I'm looking for any user-submitted bits if you have old tapes lying Around that you'd like to share -- just E-mail me. And check back in the coming weeks -- I've got a lead on some new vintage Grease bits from the 70's that I should be posting soon!

In an unrelated note, it appears that DC Radio 700, the flagship station in Washington, DC, has changed their call letters from WGOP to WDMV as of today.

May 30, 2004 -- New installment of Born Bulky comics
Joe Hollingsworth has sent me the 3rd installment of his Born Bulky comics. (well, he sent them last year, but I finally got around to scanning and posting them this weekend -- sorry, Joe!) Check them out in the
    Comics section.

April 23, 2004 -- Grease show going to Israel May 10-14
Grease announced this week that he'll be heading to Israel next month to do a week of shows in what he's calling the "Grease For Peace Tour". Tune in May 10-14 to hear the broadcast all the way from a studio in Jerusalem. If I hear more details, I'll post them here soon. Should be interesting!

5/10/04 Update -- Just found out he's not broadcasting live from Israel. He's taping the shows there this week, then will be airing them next week, May 17-21. Looks like this week consists of "best of" shows. So tune in next week!

    4/26/04 Update -- Here's the press release:

    For Immediate Release:
    April 25, 2004

The Greaseman takes show to the streets of Israel
to Give Americans a different view of the country

Wacky Radio Personality to Give American Audience a Lighter Look side at Israel Through Interviews with Comedians, Club Owners and Nighttime Television Personalities

Washington, DC – Washington’s offbeat radio personality, The Greaseman, is used to having people misunderstanding him; but that’s not usually because he doesn’t speak their language. All that will change during the “Grease for Peace Tour,” Monday through Friday, May 10-14, when the Greaseman travels throughout the land of Israel getting to know some of the country’s citizens and hottest comedians and entertainers.

To show Americans a different side of Israel, the Greaseman will interview both the common and the not-so-common Israeli citizen. Grease will talk to people off the streets, as well as Jerusalem and Tel Aviv nightclub owners, the Israeli equivalent of late-night TV talk host Dave Letterman, comedians, a balloon man, interview show hosts and he may even venture into the Playboy building to see what he can find. Afterwards, the Greaseman promises to “cannonball into the Red Sea” – microphone in hand, of course.

The Greaseman, whose real name is Doug Tracht, will bring his morning radio show and his sense of humor to Israel to show the lighter side of a country not often portrayed through the American media. “Much of the news we hear coming out of Israel focuses on the violence, the issues and how their citizens live with terror on a daily basis,” Tracht says. “And while we’re not looking to diminish that in the least, we want to show that the folks over there– in many ways – are just like us. They have the same passion for life, humor and entertainment that we do. I’m just looking to bring a little of that message back here to the States.”

The “Grease for Peace Tour” ventures eastward with help from the America’s Voices organization, a company that sends radio personalities to Israel to report the realities of life in the war-torn country. Yet while America’s Voices typically sends broadcast journalists to interview key political and business leaders, the Greaseman is the first to take his mike into the clubs and cultural hubs of the Jewish state. “We’re extremely excited about the Greaseman’s upcoming trip to Israel,” says Lauren Peck, Project Director for America’s Voices in Israel. “We’re looking forward to hearing his unique perspective and experiencing Israel through his humor and personality.”

With his off-the-wall character dramas and crazy bits, the Greaseman is used to doing things a little differently. His offbeat personality and extreme creativity quickly brought him to the top of the charts on various stations around the nation since 1972. He can now be heard on his flagship station, WGOP-AM 700 from weekdays from 6 until 10 a.m. with a repeat broadcast airing from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. He is also syndicated regionally on WWGE-AM ( Ebensburg, PA), WLRT-AM (Hampton, VA), WQZK-FM (Keyser, WV), WKMZ-FM (Martinsburg, WV), WGRX-FM Thunder 104.5 (Fredericksburg, VA) and WBOP-FM (Harrisonburg, VA). His shows are broadcasts live over the Internet at www.racetalklive.com and at www.live365.com/stations/greaseshow.

For more information on the “Grease for Peace” tour, or to interview Doug Tracht relative to his upcoming journey, please contact Steve Winter at Brotman•Winter•Fried Communication at (703) 534-4600 x-205 or via e-mail at wint@bwfcom.com.

    Cell: 202-468-8100

April 19, 2004 -- New stations & Internet streaming returns
The Grease Show welcomes two new stations to the fold:
WBOP-FM 106.3 in Harrisonburg, VA and WLRT-AM 1490 "The Outlaw" in Hampton, VA. WLRT "The Outlaw" is also known as RaceTalkLive.com and streams their station on the Internet, so that means that The Grease Show can once again be heard worldwide live on the Internet! If you're not in the listening area, tune in weekdays from 6-10am.

March 16, 2004 -- Save the Bit Vault! We need new web hosting... Can you help?
For the past few years, I've been using CSP, Inc. for storing the 3 Gigabytes of audio & video files here on Greaseman.org for free because their CEO is a Grease fan. But he's no longer with the company and they've changed their name and are no longer offering hosting services. The web hosting company I currently use for Greaseman.org is
ReadyHosting, which has been very good, but they limit me to 500MB -- not bad, but not nearly enough for the Bit Vault! I've looked around, and there are practically no hosting companies that offer 3GB+ of storage, and the ones that do have terrible reputations (e.g. Infinology - see reviews). So what I'd like to do is keep my trusted ReadyHosting and utilize another server for the Bit Vault's 3GB of files.

That's where you can come in! Are you affiliated with a company or service that offers webhosting? Would you like a little free advertising? Are you a Grease fan? All I ask is 3GB of storage with decent speed, and I'll post several ads for your company on Greaseman.org -- no money exchanged, no domains to transfer. If you've been a regular visitor here, you know I don't advertise EXCEPT for the web hosting company, and its just a barter system -- I receive no funding for this site, just favors, and I like it that way. So if you can help out, please e-mail me!

    March 10, 2004 -- New Greaseman storefront
The Greaseman has set up a new storefront website for his CDs and other stuff at
www.GreasemanStore.com. It links to the WGOP Store for ordering, but was put up to appease his other stations so he doesn't have to mention the WGOP website when promoting his goods.

January 1, 2004 -- WGOP Greaseman CD releases continue
Happy New Year! WGOP filled out their 2003 Greaseman CD offerings with their 14th (yes, 14th!) release, A Very Greasy Christmas, Volume One. To purchase any of them, or other Greaseman themed gifts like mugs and license plate frames, just visit the
    WGOP Store.

August 27, 2003 -- WGOP unleashes several new Greaseman CDs
The WGOP Store has released no less than three new Greaseman CDs recently, titled Unleashed, Get Out Of The Fartsack!, and The Greaseman's Newest Hits. All are available for immediate purchase through PayPal. To hear a free sample bit from Unleashed, click here or the CD cover to the right. The store is also selling Greaseman mugs, license plates, and license plate covers. Check it out!

July 6, 2003 -- Grease bits air on new VA affiliate
Starting Monday, July 7th, The Grease Show welcomes a new affiliate to the ring-dang-do,
Thunder 104.5 in Fredericksburg, VA. They will be airing "A Piece Of Grease" daily at 4:30pm in the afternoon drive show. Here's a quote from the official press release:

The Greaseman’s daily programming on Thunder 104.5, Country That Rocks! will add even more depth to a unique programming philosophy at the station. "The Greaseman’s blend of humor and intelligent satire should fit nicely with our pledge of bringing our listeners a brand of country/rock that is different from other radio choices in the area," says Program Director Tim Stone.

April 11, 2003 -- New Sgt. Fury CD & WGOP Archives
The WGOP website has a few new offerings for all you Grease fans. First up, the new WGOP Store is selling Greaseman T-shirts and the new CD pictured at right: Sgt. Fury In Afghanistan. Join Sgt. Fury for 21 brutal bits fighting Osama Bin Laden, the Taliban, and... camel dung? Destined to become a collector's item--order yours today!

Second, WGOP is now offering the entire Greaseman Show Archives -- every show he's done since he started at the station last year -- for your online listening enjoyment for a small monthly fee. If you're outside any of the listening areas, or if you just want to listen to that recent show you missed, you now have a way!

February 18, 2003 -- New 'Sgt. Fury 2001' Born Bulky comics
Joe Hollingsworth from Head's Up Productions has done it again! He recently sent me the third installment of his Sgt. Fury 2001 comics mini-series. I've revamped the
Comics section to make it easier to read his comics, and provided a little bio information on Joe himself that he's shared with me.

August 23, 2002 -- Grease appears on TV shows to discuss Opie & Anthony
The Greaseman has appeared on at least two (that I know of) cable TV news/talk shows recently to discuss the firing of syndicated DJs Opie & Anthony over the recent "sex-in-St.-Patrick's-cathedral" incident. The first was CNN Crossfire on August 22nd, and then a brief segment on FOX News Channel's O'Reilly Factor on the 23rd. I missed the CNN show, but their website has posted the transcript here:

You can get a video of the FOX segment from the DCRadio700.com website.

July 8, 2002 -- Grease returns to the D.C. airwaves
Starting Wednesday morning, July 10th, The Grease Show finally returns to the D.C. airwaves on the new AM station
WGOP at 700 on the AM dial. Currently they're putting out 5,000 watts of power, but this fall they're scheduled to increase that to 25,000 watts so they'll be much clearer and able to reach farther. Grease's arrangement with WGOP is for them to be his new flagship station, and he will be moving into their new studio, which is currently under construction. Here's some other new info:

Welcome back to the D.C. airwaves, Grease! And a big thanks to WGOP for making it happen!!

June 25, 2002 -- Grease to air afternoons on West Virginia station
Starting July 1st, The Grease Show will be heard on a new affiliate in Keyser, West Virginia: WQZK "netRock94". They will tape the morning's show and air it from 3-7pm in the afternoon. Check out their website at
www.wqzk.com if you dare--it took me 3 proprietary IE downloads to try to play their streaming webcast, and even then it didn't let me register to start lisnin'. (note to WQZK web designers: you don't need Flash animations and scrolling crap to be cool--just work and be informative!)

March 22, 2002 -- New affiliate signed in Indiana
Grease is currently negotiating with a couple of new affiliates to pick up the Grease Show. He's just confirmed that he's signed with WGAB-AM 1180 in Evansville, IN and says there are more coming soon. (Let's hope a new D.C. station is among them!) No word of when exactly WGAB will begin carrying the show, but it should be shortly. Welcome to the ring-dang-do, Indiana!

    March 17, 2002 -- More new 'Born Bulky' comics--Sgt. Fury 2001 edition
Joe Hollingsworth has come through with yet another round of his popular 'Born Bulky' Greaseman-themed comics, and this time he's been inspired by the war with the Taliban to produce what he calls 'Sgt. Fury 2001'. You aren't going to want to miss these! Check them out in the new
    Comics section.

    November 18, 2001 -- Greaseman wins D.C. award
Despite not currently being carried by a D.C. station, The Greaseman won a Washington Achievement In Radio (AIR) Award for "best morning drive show" last week. He tied with WIHT's morning team of Mark Kaye and Kris Gamble. Congrats, Grease! Now if only he would get back on a station in D.C.!

    October 3, 2001 -- New Search feature on Greaseman.org
Finally, I've added a 'Search' feature to Greaseman.org. It utilizes a web service from Master.com, and I think it works well, but if anyone notices any problems or bugs please notify me. If you missed it, its on the bottom of the
    front page. Enjoy!

October 2, 2001 -- New 'Born Bulky' Comics!
I liked the first round of Joe Hollingsworth's 'Born Bulky' comics so much that I asked him if he had any more, and he sent me a whole new batch!
    Check 'em out.

    August 1, 2001 -- Happy Birthday Grease!
MTV isn't the only entertainment icon celebrating a birthday today, the Grease turns 51 years young today! Happy Birthday to the doo-dad-daddy! I'm sure this one is schweeter than the last two!

    August 1, 2001 -- jasoN's Greaseman page now integrated
To celebrate Grease's birthday, I finally integrated jasoN's Greaseman page into Greaseman.org, so check out the new stuff when you get a chance:
Born Bulky, The 1987 Washington Post article, and updated links to jasoN's Greaseman FAQ, message board, and CDs for sale.

    March 6, 2001 -- Washington Post reports Grease's return
Washington Post writer Frank Ahrens has written an article on Grease's return to radio. Click the link below to read:

Also of note, Skip McCloskey's The Great 98 website features pictures and bits from Grease's first day back! Click here and scroll down to check them out!

March 5, 2001 -- The Grease Show returns to the radio
After two years, The Greaseman is back on the air, and this time he's also broadcasting the show on the Internet! Here are the details... The Grease Show will air on the following stations: WZHF-AM 1390 (Arlington, VA / Washington D.C.), WNST-AM 1570 (Baltimore / Towson, MD), & WPWC-AM 1480 (Dumfries, VA). (for an updated list, return to the
    front page)

Click To Listen To Live365.com! The show will air in his familiar 6-10AM morning slot, though the Washington station (WZHF) will only carry 6-8AM for now--it will carry the full show soon. But the big news is that the show will be simulcast on the Internet through the website Live365.com. For the first time ever, listeners worldwide can hear The Grease Show live! To listen online, go to the website's main page from this link and search for "Greaseman" and you'll get the link to stream the audio of the show.

As of launch day, March 5th, the simulcast is choppy due to a low-speed connection from Grease's studio to Live365.com, but he's got a high-speed connection on order and the audio feed will soon be as smooth as a bone-dry martini! So have a little patience on that one.

There is a new phone number to reach the show as well: 1-866-SCHWEET (toll free), and you can still reach him through e-mail at greaseshow@aol.com. So tune in Monday through Friday from 6-10AM, either on the radio dial or through your PC, and lets all welcome back the Grease!

March 25, 2000 -- Greaseman to perform at nightclub
The Greaseman will be performing stand-up at the
XHALE Nightclub in Frederick, MD on Friday, March 31st. This isn't the first time he's brought the Grease Show to the clubs. Throughout his radio career he has made public appearances and performed stand-up routines for his fans. Click the link above for details and directions to XHALE, and I'll see you at the show!

July 2, 1999 -- The Greaseman Files relaunches as Greaseman.org
Welcome to the relaunch of The Greaseman Files website with it's new name and URL: Greaseman.org! In addition to the new look of the site, there's plenty of new bits available as MP3s, most notably all of Grease's CDs, tapes & albums ever released! Also, all of jasoN's CD's are available to download here (thanks, jasoN!!) and a bunch of new bits from my personal tapes of Grease on DC/101 in the early 80's. Look around and see what's new!

I couldn't have made this site what it is without the help of you Greasefans. In addition to the many bits sent to me by jasoN & Sonny Moore, I've received pictures of the Grease from people, sometimes from their personal collections of a studio visit. Keep 'em comin'! I'll post any pictures or bits I get! You can send files to steve@greaseman.org, or if you want to snail-mail me something, contact me for my snail-mail address. I also plan to purchase a video- capture device VERY soon, so I'll be adding Grease videos such as the infamous Soapin' Up With The Grease for download. Stay tuned!

Obviously the most asked question I get is "Have you heard anything about the Grease's status? Is he working again yet?" The answer to both of those are unfortunately "no", but I keep on top of things through the net and from you fans, and as soon as I hear anything you can be sure I'll post it right there on the front page. So keep checkin' the site, and enjoy the rest of it in the mean time! AMF!!!

February 27, 1999 -- The Greaseman Files appears on the TV show Extra

The TV show covered the Greaseman's firing , they aired a sound clip of Grease that was downloaded from this very website, while showing our main home page on a computer monitor. Nothing like a little free publicity! Not that I have any sponsors or anything, but it was a nice ego boost. =)
